چکیده

This report investigates the possibility of using signal processing techniques in the analysis of biological sequences: DNA, RNA and proteins. The starting point in the investigation was the Resonant Recognition Model (RRM) and the method proposed here builds on the foundations set by RRM. However, some fundamental modi...cations to RRM had to be madein order to make it suitable for the analysis of a greater variety of sequences. The concepts were tested on the problem of promoter recognition. During the course of the project, several methods for extracting the features from the spectra of biological sequences and several types of classi...ers were tested. For promoter classi...cation the suitable choices were found to be Principal Component Analysis (PCA) feature extraction and General Regression Neural Network (GRNN) classi...er. Promoter recognition system designed around this classi...er showed very good performance in comparison to other promoter recognition tools. Results indicate that signal processing methods may be very suitable for analyzing biological sequences. Research Head: Professor Anthony D. تخمین مکان نواحی کدکننده پروتئین در توالی عددی DNA با استفاده پنجره با طول متغیر بر مبنای منحنی سه بعدی Z

In recent years, estimation of protein-coding regions in numerical deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) sequences using signal processing tools has been a challenging issue in bioinformatics, owing to their 3-base periodicity. Several digital signal processing (DSP) tools have been applied in order to Identify the task and concentrated on assigning numerical values to the symbolic DNA sequence, then app...

Automatic Detection and Localization of Surface Cracks in Continuously Cast Hot Steel Slabs Using Digital Image Analysis Techniques

Quality inspection is an indispensable part of modern industrial manufacturing. Steel as a major industry requires constant surveillance and supervision through its various stages of production. Continuous casting is a critical step in the steel manufacturing process in which molten steel is solidified into a semi-finished product called slab. Once the slab is released from the casting unit, th...

Structural Analysis and Identification of Genomic and Proteomic Sequences Using Signal Processing Techniques

Bioinformatics is a data rich field which provides unique opportunities to use computational techniques, to understand and to organize information associated with Bio molecules such as DNA, RNA, and Proteins. DNA sequences can be converted into RNA and then proteomic sequences using transcription and translation. First these sequences are to be translated into a “gap sequence” consisting of int...

In silico investigation of lactoferrin protein characterizations for the prediction of anti-microbial properties

Lactoferrin (Lf) is an iron-binding multi-functional glycoprotein which has numerous physiological functions such as iron transportation, anti-microbial activity and immune response. In this study, different in silico approaches were exploited to investigate Lf protein properties in a number of mammalian species. Results showed that the iron-binding site, DNA and RNA-binding sites, signal pepti...

Phylogenetic and sequence analysis of the growth hormone gene of two sturgeons, Huso huso and Acipenser Gueldenstaedtii

In this study, the cDNA Growth Hormone (cGH) of the Belugasturgeon (Husohuso) and Russian sturgeon (Acipensergueldenstaedtii) were cloned and sequenced, and phylogenetic relationships were examined using nucleic acid and amino acid sequences. The nucleotide sequence of the Beluga GH has an open reading frame of 645 nucleotides encoding a protein 214 amino acid residues. The signal peptide cleav...
